At 10:00 am today, Typhoon “CHAN-HOM” (international name) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) was located based on all available data at 1,620 km east of Luzon (18.1°N, 137.0°E) with maximum sustained winds of120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It is forecast to move west northwest at 20 kph.
This typhoon is expected to enter the PAR this afternoon or evening and will be named “FALCON”. Tomorrow morning, it is expected to be at 1190 km east of Itbayat, Batanes and at 780 km east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes by Thursday morning. By Friday morning, it is expected to be at 600 km northeast of Itbayat, Batanes or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or “Habagat” is expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains over the Calayan and Babuyan group of islands, Ilocos Region and over the provinces of Benguet, Zambales and Bataan. Residents in these areas are advised to be alert against possible flashfloods and landslides.
The general public and disaster risk reduction and management councils concerned are advised to monitor for updates to be incorporated in the 5pm public weather forecast today and for the next weather advisory to be issued at 11:00 am tomorrow.
