PAGASA Typhoon “JULIAN” and Typhoon “IGME” News Updates

At 4:00 a.m. today, the eye of Typhoon “IGME” was located based on satellite and surface data at 220 km North Northwest of Basco, Batanes (22.2°N 121.0°E) with maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph. It is forecast to move West Southwest at 15 kph. Meanwhile, Typhoon “JULIAN” was located at 1,050 km East of Basco, Batanes (20.1°N 133.2°E) with maximum sustained winds of 150 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 185 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 15 kph.
Forecast:
The islands of Batanes will experience stormy weather while Calayan and Babuyan group of islands will have rains with gusty winds and the coastal waters along these areas will be rough to very rough. The rest of the country will be mostly cloudy with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Southwest will prevail over the rest of Luzon and Visayas and coming from the South to Southwest over Mindanao. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

stimated rainfall amount is from 10 – 20 mm per hour (moderate – heavy) within the 500 km diameter of the Typhoon.

TY “Igme” is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.

TY “Igme” is forecast to make a counter-clockwise looping motion within the next 24-48 hours due to its interaction with Typhoon “Julian”.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the Northern and Eastern Seaboards of Luzon due to big waves generated by Typhoon “IGME”.

The public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 AM today.

Typhoon “Julian” was located at 1,050 km East of Basco, Batanes.
