Tropical cyclone warning signal number 3 was raised over eight areas as Typhoon Karen (international name: Sarika) accelerated towards Luzon, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
In its 2 p.m. briefing, PAGASA said areas under signal number 3 and 2 will experience heavy rains and strong winds that can trigger storm surges.
The areas under warning signal number 3 are as follows:
-Northern Quezon including Polillo Island
Signal number 2:
-rest of Quezon
-rest of Zambales
Signal number 1:
-Masbate, including Ticao and Burias Island
-rest of Isabela
PAGASA said the eye of the typhoon was located 120 km north northwest of Virac, Catanduanes and is packing winds of up to 130 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 180 kph.
The typhoon is expected to move west northwest at 17 kph and make landfall over the Quezon-Aurora area on Sunday morning.
Another tropical storm with the international name “Haima” may enter PAR on Monday, PAGASA said.
The storm, which will be called “Lawin” once it enters PAR, is located 1,840 kilometers east of Mindanao and is moving west northwest at 13 kph.
