CHED suspends college classes in NCR; Malacanang announces work suspension in gov’t offices

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services (Pagasa) says typhoon ‘Pedring‘ (International name: NESA) has made landfall between Aurora and Isabela Tuesday, placing new provinces under Signal No. 3.

Pedring also intensified with a maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph.

In its 4 am bulletin, Pagasa raised public storm signal # 3 in the following areas:

Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Cagayan, Isabela, Ifugao, Benguet, La Union, Nueva Viscaya, Quirino, Aurora, Nueva Ecija,Tarlac, Pangasinan and Zambales

Signal # 2: Pampanga, Bulacan, Bataan, Rizal, Northern Quezon inc. Polillo is., Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Lubang is., Babuyan and Calayan group of islands and Metro Manila

Signal #1: Batanes, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Burias is., Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay,Southern Quezon, Catanduanes, Calamian group of is., and Romblon group of islands.

Classes from preschool to highschool, private or public are automatically suspended for areas under Signal # 2.

Suspension of classes is meanwhile automatically suspended in areas under Signal # 3.

The Commission on Higher Education has announced that classes in college, undergraduate or graduate level, are also suspended in National Capital Region Tuesday, according to a report on radio dzMM.

Deputy presidential spokesman Abigail Valte has also announced the suspension of work in all government offices Tuesday.

Pedring is expected to be in the vicinity of Baguio City Tuesday afternoon and will be at 150 km Northwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur Wednesday morning.
