Bagyong Ferdie News Updates

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Abra remain under storm signal number 1 as tropical depression “Ferdie” continues to move away from the country.

In its 5 p.m. weather bulletin on Saturday, PAGASA said Ferdie was last spotted 240 kilometers (km) west northwest of Laoag City, moving at 15 kilometers per hour (kph) with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center.

PAGASA said Ferdie is expected to enhance the Southwest Monsoon that will bring rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao especially the western section.

“Ang mga pag-ulan dito sa Maynila na nararanasan natin simula kagabi pa, ito po ay dulot ng epekto ng habagat na pinagibayo ng bagyong si Ferdie at inaasahan natin na ito ay magpapatuloy pa bagamat pabugso-bugso ang pagbuhos ng malakas na ulan dito sa Metro Manila,” said PAGASA Administrator Nathaniel Servando.

Ferdie is forecast to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday night and be 380 km west northwest of Laoag City by Sunday morning.

Those living in low-lying and mountainous areas under the Public Storm Warning Signal No. 1 are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides.

PAGASA also warned fishing boats and other small vessels from going out to sea in Central and Southern Luzon due to the combined effects of tropical depression “Ferdie” and the Southwest Monsoon.

Meanwhile, another LPA was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 150 km west southwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

“May nakikita tayong LPA posibleng after bagyong Ferdie maaaring maging ganap din na bagyo,” said Servando.

The LPA, he said, is already inside the PAR.

“Sakaling mag-develop itong Low Pressure Area, ito naman ang magiging dahilan ng pagulan sa Metro Manila. Ang sunod ni Ferdie ay ‘Gener,’” he said.
