At 4:00 am today, the eye of Typhoon “SANTI” was located based on all available data at 340 km East of Baler, Aurora (15.4°N, 125.1°E) with maximum winds of 120 kph and gustiness of up to 150 kph. It is forecast to move west at 15 kph.
Isabela, Ifugao, Nueva Viscaya, Quirino, Benguet, La Union, Pangasinan, Northern Quezon including Polilio Islands and Central Luzon will experience stormy weather with rough to very rough seas. Metro Manila, rest of CALABARZON, Marinduque, Lubang Islands, Abra, Kalinga, Ilocos Sur, Mt. Province, Southern Cagayan, Catanduanes, Albay and Camarines provinces will have rains with gusty winds with moderate to rough seas. The rest of Luzon and Visayas will be cloudy with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms. Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.
Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over the rest of the country and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.
Estimated rainfall amount is from 7.5 – 30.0 mm per hour (Heavy – Intense) within the 500 km diameter of the Typhoon.
Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signal #3, #2 and #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas under signal #3 and #2 are alerted against storm surges.
Sea travel is risky over the Eastern seaboard of Northern Luzon and of Visayas.
The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next bulletin to be issued at 11 AM today.
Storm warning signals have been hoisted over 33 areas as tropical cyclone “Santi” intensified into a typhoon and continued to move closer to the Philippines, state weather bureau PAGASA said.
PAGASA said the province of Aurora has been placed under signal number 3. The coastal province should experience winds of 100 to 185 kilometers per hour (kph) in at least 18 hours.
